Acute upper airway obstruction may occur secondary to hematoma formation following traumatic internal jugular vein (IJV) cannulation. Though uncommon, hematoma after central access can be a life-threatening event that requires early and prompt intervention. We present two different cases of airway obstruction caused by hematoma formation following IJV central line placement and discuss key management strategies. INTRODUCTION
